Throw Out Your Scarlet Rope

I sat on my couch that October morning, pleading with God as to why He saw fit for us to take on this calling. I had also just started reading the book of Joshua. As a little girl, the story of Rahab was told to me numerous times. However, that day, her story took on a whole new light.

Rahab’s Story

You can read all about Rahab in Joshua chapter 2. She will again be back into the story line in Joshua chapter 6. What I’m going to share is a summarization on what happened.

Joshua and his team were scouting out Jericho to take it over. They were spying on how and what their strategies would be. A harlot, by the name of Rahab, allowed them into her home and hid them there as they plotted against the city. When they were headed to leave, she let them down a scarlet rope that she threaded through the window for them to escape from.

Her hospitality brought them a covenant in which they made with her. They told her, when they returned to the city, to let down the scarlet rope out the window. This would be sign to their men that her home was off limits. It was protected. They would pass by it and not destroy it. Anyone or anything in that home would be safe.

The Scarlet Rope

That day as I read, I was waiting on our newest, unexpected foster daughter to arrive. While reading, the only thing I could think and pray was this:

“God, please let her see the scarlet rope. Let her see safety. Let her see protection. Let her feel as she enters in that this is a safe place.”

In that moment, that was my prayer. However, as I pondered on this scarlet rope, I began to realize there is so much more to this.

Our Safe Haven

As moms, don’t we all want our homes to be our kids safe place? That place of refuge when life is hard?

I believe we all do.

I began to ask myself, “Do all of my kids see that scarlet rope? Am I actively throwing it out the window showing the enemy that this place is off limits? My kids are off limits?”

Gosh, I would like to say that I do but sadly, I fail daily at fervently praying off the enemy from destruction behind these walls.

You Have an Enemy

We all (the round farmhouse included) invest on home security cameras, the RING doorbell, ADT, you name it to have continual protection of our earthly homes. We want our homes to be safe from the enemies that may break in or try to steal our beloved earthly possessions.

What we fail to forget is that every battle we face on this earth, even though it may look as though it needs fought or protected in the flesh- it’s spiritual.

That enemy wants to wreak havoc inside of your home. He comes to kill, steal, and destroy. (John 10:10) However, that enemy has no authority over the blood of Jesus.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12

“We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldy weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.” 2 Cor. 10:3-4

So my question for you is this:

Are you fighting this war that is raging outside of your home or maybe inside of your home with the right weapon?

Are you investing in that fight?

Is your house covered?

Is your scarlet rope let down as a sign to the enemy to keep out?

Does the enemy know that he is off limits to enter into this home?

Is your home a safe haven for your children to come and live free from the evil forces of this world?

What greater gift as moms could we give our children than to provide them a place of refuge when the outside world is full of darkness. A safe haven, a protected spot free from the enemies demise. We must invest in the fight. We must fight with the right weapon. We must let the enemy know, he is not welcome here!

Let’s start today by letting the enemy know just that! Throw out your scarlet rope!

Love you friends
